Cheryl Taves is a visual artist working in mixed media painting, printmaking as well as drawing and painting on Mylar. She was born in Winnipeg Manitoba, but has lived and worked in Victoria, BC most of her life. She graduated from the Victoria College of Art in 2004 and has been successfully showing her work in juried and non-juried exhibitions since then.  Along with three other contemporary artists, Cheryl opened and operated an artist run gallery and studio, The Store Studio, in downtown Victoria. During its two years of operations she exhibited a diverse body of work comprised of drawing, painting, and sculpture. Cheryl was represented by the Fran Willis Gallery in Victoria, BC, where she had been successfully exhibiting until its closing in June 2007.

Currently Cheryl is a member of Making a Mark, an exhibiting collective that formed out of the closing of the Fran Willis Gallery. She is also a member of the Broad Reach Art Group and a participating artist in the Stinking Fish Studio Tour.

The theme of relationship, specifically the process of moving between a known and an unknown experience, is what presents itself in Cheryl's work. Another reoccurring theme is the examining of the hidden aspects of self in an effort to experience them more clearly.

Cheryl's studio and home is located in Metchosin, BC, a rural community located just outside of Victoria. She shares her life with her husband Keith Baker, a musician and designer.
