I'm pleased to let you know that several pieces of my work have been accepted into Sopa's 5th annual juried exhibition, the U8 Event. Beginning April 1st (opening night) the gallery will be exhibiting over 350 original artworks priced Under Eight Hundred dollars.
The goal of this event is two fold: to promote appreciation of original art to the public by making it affordable; and to promote the exceptional work of many local artists, as well as introduce artwork from selected international artists. This show features a wide range of mediums, from over 80 talented artists. It's also become a great opportunity for the gallery to discover new artists as well.

Opening Reception and Silent Auction Fundraiser for Our Place Society
Saturday October 10th 2:00 to 5:00 pm
In this exhibition we are considering what binds all of humanity together and how we can support our greater community. As we four support each other through our collaborative projects and exhibitions, we now broaden the scope of this endeavor by adding a charitable contribution with our work, in the form of a silent auction. Thanksgiving is a time of reflection and sharing, of gratefulness and generosity. We hope this exhibition allows us to extend some measure of this to those in need.

Emanation June 1 - 28, 2009
In this solo exhibition of new work I am interested in what is caused to flow forth from the work - how each piece connects to and has informed the next, and how we, as viewers, are challenged to find a definition for the work. It is my intention to allow the viewer to determine their own meaning and discover for themselves, within their own emotional responses, what might be revealed - what flows forth, allowing for an experience of wonderment.

Making a Mark Collective - Artist Statement:
In June 2007 the Fran Willis Gallery sadly held its last exhibition before closing its doors. Sharing the south wall of the gallery was the work of four Victoria artists: Sylvia Bews-Wright, Maggie Cole, Wren Katzalay and Cheryl Taves.
We had long admired one another's work. We recognized our debt to the paintings and drawings of Rothko, Tapies, Twombly and other non-objective artists of the post-Second World War era. We knew that art making was a solitary and sometimes frustrating activity. And so with the closing of one door - the Fran Willis Gallery - we opened another by coming together to form Making a Mark.
Over the course of the last year we have come to appreciate the extent to which artists can support, encourage, and facilitate the exhibition and creation of one another's work. We have been delighted to discover that we do, as we first thought, share an aesthetic, through our use of strong gestural marks and our willingness to experiment. Our determination to commit to being artists is the common thread through both our methodologies and our work. As members of Making a Mark, we want to 'speak' to a wide audience and by so doing share what we have created on and beneath the surface both as individuals and as a group of women artists.

TRACES June 8 - July 1
Finding the evidence and markers along the way, this new work explores the traces of relationship - with the self, with others and with the work itself. This exhibition of mixed media painting and works on Mylar and reflects the artist's process and personal imagery. Through a layering of materials, mark making and erasure, a history is revealed that speaks of need, curiosity, identity and compulsion. Color is set against the purity of white - white becoming the transformer - compelling, obliterating, perilous, cleansing and fresh. The traces of what was once there are revealed and hidden in an ongoing cycle of transformation, division and reconstruction, finally resting at the edge of recognition allowing the viewer to create their own narrative and personal meaning.
